    Various resins (adherends) were treated with a corona discharge apparatus to give OH groups on the surfaces. The reaction of obtained OH group-linked resins and 6-triethoxysilylpropylamino-1,3,5-triazine-2,4-ditiol (TES) produced TES-linked resins. Direct adhesions of halogen-containing rubbers (adhesives) to TES-linked resins during curing were investigated for the material dependence on adherends and adhesives, and reacting points and their concentration in the adhesives. Other than direct adhesion of halogen-containing rubbers with high reactive curing agents and low concentration of reactive points and TES linked resins, the adhesion products of various resins and halogen-containing rubbers indicated high peel strength and 100% rubber coverage. The results indicate that rubber materials are independent on resin materials in the direct adhesion. In the direct adhesion of halogen-containing rubbers to various TES-linked resins during curing, resin types had no sufficient effect on peel strength and rubber coverage expected for PP. The direct adhesion of PP and halogen-containing rubbers gave low peel strength and rubber coverage because PP is given with low OH group concentration by corona discharge treatment. When chemical bond concentration at interfacial layer is constant, peel strength decreased with an increase in network chain concentration. The phenomenon is explained by the stress dispersion, which relates to the elastic modulus of valucanizates.

    The polymer layers adsorbed on carbon black (CB) aggregates in rubber/CB systems have been investigated with contrast variation small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) method. Specimens were swollen by toluene/deuterated toluene solvents having various scattering length densities and their scattering intensities were measured with SANS. The contrast variation SANS for the specimens yielded partial scattering functions: the scattering function for polymer-polymer correlation Spp(q), the scattering function for CB- CB correlation Scc(q), and the scattering function for polymer- CB correlation Spc(q). The analyses of the partial scattering functions explored the existence of dense polymer layers around CB aggregates. Several characteristic parameters are estimated from the analyses, such as the size of aggregates, the thickness of layers, and the volume fractions of polymer of layers and matrix.

    A variety of carbon materials provide a series of unique properties, reflecting their nano, micro and macro structures. Controlled production of their nano structure, size and shape is a key technology to prepare the optimum material of unique properties. Thus, a variety of carbons and their composites of various bulk structures, shapes, sizes, and surface areas have been produced to apply for the battery application. In this paper, carbons and their composites as effective anode materials for Li-ion battery are reviewed based on the nano-structural analyses. Systematic examinations of carbon materials with unique nano structure can provide promising chances of improving the optimum performance toward particular application, enhancing their excellent performances.
