The following observations have been made by Misaki Marine Biological Station under the support of Geographical Institute, Tokyo Imperial University. Dairy observation of the water temperature, and the salinity of the surface have been made since August 1928, by S. Kojima, at the mouth of Aburatsubo Bay (Fig. 1), where Misaki Marine Biological Station, which belongs to Tokyo Imperial University, stands. (See Table 1-18, and Fig. 2) Also the weekly observation of temperature, salinity, and dissolved oxygen have been carried out in different depth (0, 2, 4, 6) inside the bay. (See Table 19-26 and Fig. 5). Salinity, and dissolved oxygen were determined by titration methods of Mohr and Winkler respectively.
The temperature at the surface fluctuated between 13°C and 26°C, and the Salinity between 31‰ and 35y‰. The annual variation of the latter corresponded to the precipitation of this district, and the highest was found during the winter, when the precipitation was less, and the lowest, during. the autumn, when we had much rain.
The salinity' inside the bay always stratified owing. to the inflowing of river water. Consequently the fall of temperature through 6m often amounted to 4°C, for the resistance against the turbulence was very strong.
