Angiological and histopathological analysis of bronchopulmonary anastomosis for primary lung cancers were made.
The results obtained were as follows.
As the causes of broncho-pulmonary anastomosis (BPA), following 4 patterns were classified.
a) Bronchial arterial recanalization associated with tumor infiltration to pulmonary vessels
b) Anastomosis via vasa vasorum of pulmonary arteries in which tumor thrombosis was formed
c) Bronchial arterial recanalization via vasa vasorum due to occulsion of pulmonary artery by tumor invasion
d) Bronchial arterial recanalization by other pathogenesis prior to cancer development
The prognosis of all the patients showed BPA, especially in oat cell carcinoma, was extremely poor because of subsequent wide spread metastasis.
