Histopatholagical observations were made on biopsy specimens taken from the cutaneous sites of Mitsuda reaction in various types of leprosy.
The results are as follow.
(1) The histopathological manifestation of Mitsuda positive cases is the tuberculoid grranulome.
(2) There is no essential difference between neural and tuberculoid leprosy from the histological standpoint.
(3) The formation of tuberculoid granulome would be caused by the phosphatid-frac-tion of lepra bacilli.
(4) The reason why the lepromatous cases shows Mitsuda reaction negative is considered as the lackn of resistance againgt hacilli.
(5) The allergic nature of the early reaction could not be found.
(6) There is no relation between Mitsuda reaction and tuberculin reaction.
(7) The histophathological picture of Mitsuda reaction of non-lepers shows no difference from that of neural and tuberculoid cases.
(8) The tuberculoid granulome is also formed in various types of leprosy including lepromatous leprosy from 8 to 10 days after injection of B. C. G. Mycobacterium lep. murium and Mycobacterium thymotae.
