In order to investigate the role and significance of the omentum major in the intraperitoneal infection of murine leprosy, the following experiment was carried out in 30 rats divided in two groups.
In one group, the omentum major was cut out, and the murine leprosy bacilli were inoculated intraperitoneally.
The autopsy made five months after the inoculation showed development of large leproma on the capsule of the spleen in all rats of the experimented group, but not in all rats of the control group.
With regard to the dissemination of murine leprosy bacilli, no difference was recognized between experimented group and control group. It was therefore considered that development of leproma on capsule of the spleen compensated dysplasty of leproma on"milk pox" due to removal of the omentum major.
