We investigated the effects of triacetin (shortchaintriglyceride) on gastric motility in conscious dogs. The rate of gastric emptying was monitored by evans blue appearance in the duodenum. Gastric contraction was measured by a strain gauge transducer (SGT) mounted on the gastric antrum. Administration of triacetin to the stomach through the infusion tube placed in the gastric lumen resulted in a reduction of the rate of gastric emptying, in comparison with control which was administered water alone, and significant reduction appeared in 40-60 min after the administration. The gastric motility measured by SGT indicated that the interdigestive migrating contraction of the stomach was also reduced by treatment with triacetin, in comparison with that with water alone. The results indicated that triacetin delays gastric emptying and inhibits gastric contractile activity. Key words: triacetin, gastric emptying, gastric motility.

Japan Society of Smooth Muscle Research publishes the Journal of Smooth Muscle Research (JSMR) bi-monthly, and the papers published have been opened in the J-Stage, from volume 36 (1999). One of the headache problems for JSMR is the lack of the submission of papers, and this does not allow regular publication of JSMR. The main reason of the small number of submitted paper may be due to the absence of Impact Factor (IF) in this journal. In 2002, attempts were made to publish invited review articles in JSMR, written by the active researchers, since Editorial boards considered that this would call attention of many smooth muscle researchers to JSMR, and facilitate submission of papers to JSMR. J-Stage started to report the monthly number of downloads and citations of papers published in the JSMR from January 2005. Analyses were made for the number of papers to be downloaded since last 10 months to investigate the effects of introduction of invited review articles to JSMR on the number of downloads. The results indicated that the number of downloads is much higher for the review articles, compared to the original papers. The effects of publication of invited reviews also appeared on the increased number of downloads for original papers. Thus, in two meanings, it was considered that the publica-tion of invited review article in JSMR increases the attractiveness of this journal.
