A site emitting cold air was discovered on the mid-slope of Mt. Hououzan in Odate City, Akita Prefecture. Hourly observations of the subsurface cavity temperature at the surface opening, as well as measurements of the direction of the airflow entering and exiting the opening, were conducted. The results revealed that the site exhibits characteristics typical of a cold wind cave. Although the degree and duration of low temperatures during the summer were not as pronounced as those observed in the Nagahashiri and Katayama wind caves, the annual mean temperature was found to be 4.1℃, which is comparable to that of the Matsumine wind cave.
