    Eco-driving support systems (EDSSs) are classified into two types; a direct EDSS and an indirect EDSS. In the previous study, driving simulator experiments were performed to verify the different influence of two EDSSs on proficiency in eco-driving. The present study increases experimental participants to make the results more reliable, discusses the results by using new indices, and clarifies the relationship between the degree of active effort and motivation for eco-driving.

    The aim of this study is to propose the estimation method for size of useful field of view. In order to examine parameters related to eye movement effective for estimating useful field of view in driving, we measured eye movements and blinks during simulated driving. In the experiment, head and eye movements were measured at the same time to calculate the fixation point along global coordinate. The results shows following: (1) The experimental system was developed to measure the useful field of view in Head-free Condition. It was shown that the bigger the mental workload becomes, the smaller the useful field of view is. (2) The estimated equation shows that the relationship between the useful field of view and the parameters of eye movement was proposed.

    This study examines the assistance system to predict driving behavior considering the pre-preceding vehicle information. The assistance system indicates an evaluation index considering not only the relation (Time HeadWay) between the preceding and following vehicles, but also the relation (Time To Collision) between the pre-preceding and following vehicle. Driving simulator experiments are examined with several participants who follow a preceding vehicle and a visible pre-preceding vehicle. The participants with the assistance system succeeded in following the preceding vehicle with a small relative velocity to the pre-preceding vehicle and small acceleration, whereas the participants without the assistance system with a large relative velocity to the pre-preceding vehicle and large acceleration. These effects make it possible to decrease the collision risk to the preceding vehicle and to reduce fuel consumption.

    Indoor location platforms that provide human movement history for location-based applications are expected to spread into every home environment. Most of the platforms, however, are designed for a dedicated environment and a single application. Since the hardware and software components of a platform are strongly linked to an application, it is difficult to modify the components according to the room layout and application requirements. In this paper, we propose "VELSY," a support system for developing indoor location platform and its application. The dependencies among VELSY's components are weaker than those of previous studies. While configuring a platform and its application into a site, the user of VELSY can easily modify the type, the number, and the location of the sensor devices. The experimental results showed that VELSY had a certain degree of usability and had enough flexibility in configuring the platform and its application.

    In order to solve our energy and environmental issues, it is important not only to make the efforts by industrial fields but also to promote pro-environmental behaviors (PEB) in our daily lives. It is however difficult for us to keep doing PEBs for long time. In order to keep it, it can be effective that they join an online community because a group norm of continuous PEB is expected to be fostered in such community. In this study, an online community named " eco club " has been proposed which is modeled on a school club activity where the group norm works well. When joining the community, participants have to play a role of senior/junior student of " eco club ". The community also introduces confederates who are active participants to arouse a good atmosphere and create a positive relationship among community members. The proposed community was evaluated through a subject experiment and the effectiveness was confirmed.

    In these years, mobile devices such as PDA and cellular phones become powerful and multifunctional. Therefore, many people are using such devices at a wide variety of situations. With advances in mobile technologies, mobile devices have several sensors for gestures interfaces such as touch screen sensor and/or acceleration sensor. However mobile devices don't allow people to adjust the gesture interfaces. Although the interfaces are fixed by developers, it doesn't always match every user and situation. It is difficult for developers to predict all user's situation from the beginning. In this paper, we provide a framework called GIF (Gesture Interface Framework) that can adjust the gesture interfaces of each functions to an end user. Additionally, a user can make gesture interfaces based on given basic gestures. Developers can use GIF and embed the customizable gesture interfaces on their application easily. For demonstrating, to show the efficacy of GIF, we implement a Web browser and evaluate the usefulness of GIF.

    Air Traffic Control Officers (ATCOs) play a central role in maintaining safety and efficiency of air traffic operations. Thus, education and training of ATCO trainees is an important issue in ATC domain. However, efficient skill transfer from experienced ATCOs to trainees is difficult because ATCOs often utilize practical knowledge in their work. Therefore, towards supporting education and training of ATCO trainees, the present research evaluates the applicability of a process visualization interface of ATC tasks called COMPASi (COMPAS in interactive mode / COMPAS: COgnitive system Model for simulating Projection-based behavior of Air traffic controller in dynamic Situations) for visualizing ATCO's practical knowledge involved in their control strategies, i.e., sets of control activities and their timings. Through a simulation-based experiment using a complex traffic scenario including various kinds of ATC tasks and wind effect, COMPASi was confirmed to have a capability of visualizing performance differences of two types of control strategies from viewpoints of task efficiency and preventive risk reduction. Performance comparison of control strategies under various traffic and wind conditions, which is achieved by COMPASi, is expected to support trainees in comprehensive understanding of ATCO's practical knowledge.

    Nowadays sophisticated mobile devices have been gradually popularized, which enable us to carry and refer flood of personal data collections such as music tunes, bibliographic list, cashbook, weight log, etc. anytime, anywhere. In this paper, to further innovation in our lifestyle, we develop a smart phone application to build a personal clothing database that is expected to enhance our daily dressing, shopping behavior, and social communication. For the purpose we invent a hierarchical touch-screen menu interface for categorizing personal clothing data. Although there are vast number of clothing category names may be considered, we adopted minimum necessary set based on our questionnaire results. Moreover we introduce a novel shooting method to take clothing pictures, in which a target clothing is overlaid on a human silhouette frame in the shooting screen to keep size and alignment of the pictures homogeneous.
