Tests to evaluate the drying rate after harvesting and lodging ratio using
four breeding lines and fourteen commercial cultivars of rye were carried
out. The four breeding lines were selected based on early maturity and high
yield since 2005 derived from commercial cultivars at Shinshu University.
From the results of the evaluation tests ,‘SUR-10’and ‘SUR-12’showed
markedly early maturity, with a heading date in late April. Lodging was
not observed because of a short stem and they were harvested before an
increase in lodging. However, the drying rates of ‘SUR-10’and
‘SUR-12’ were slower than those of other cultivars because of the ratio of
stems that are hollow and easy to dry was low due to the short stem.
