On July 28, 1973, I collected an adult female (s-v length 72.2mm) and 7 eggs of a litter of
Eumeces oshimensis in a burrow at Mt. Kôchi-dake, Amami Island. After 14 days, five of these eggs were fixed in 70% alcohol and then the embryos were taken out for observation. Six characters were examined, and the data were compared with those of the other immature specimens of the same species and of
E. marginatus. The average size of 6 eggs was 18.2×11.0mm; the average snout to vent length of 5 embryos was 24.8mm; the features of the dorsolateral lines showed variation ranging over the both patterns characteristic of
E. oshimensis and
E. marginatus. That a female was captured at the same time suggests a probable brooding habit of this species.
