    This paper proposes the frequency multiplier consisting of the integral type monostable multivibrator with switched-capacitor (SC) circuit, astable multivibrator and AND gate. As for this frequency multiplier, a stable operation is obtained irrespective of the ratio of multiplier. This ratio of multiplier becomes the largest about 60 only by changing a value of capacitor with the time constant circuit.
    Moreover, this ratio is expressed as a simple formula only with circuit parameters. The calculated values of this ratio agree very well with the measured ones.
    Furthermore, in this frequency multiplier, the large ratio of multiplier can be obtained by cascading monostable multivibrator. If the input signal repetition is constant in this circuit, the output signal of duty factor 50% can be obtained by transforming SC circuit and adjusting the oscillation frequency of the astable multivibrator. Besides, this frequency multiplier is able to have optional ratio of multiplier m/n (n<m) easily, when 1/n frequency divider is cascaded.

    Support tools for understanding and tackling noise trouble are developed. These tools help engineers who are not familiar with noise to learn noise reduction technique and process. The noise reduction technique consists of theoretical and experimental knowledge. Thus these tools use both knowledges to construct knowledge base. The experimental knowledges are extracted from variety of case studies about noise reducing works. Two types of tools were developed, noise guidance tool and noise expert tool. The noise guidance tool is made on card type data base and the noise expert system is on expert system construction tool which has inference process.

    An associative retrieval for an image database using orthogonal projection operation is studied with respect to our biological knowledge base. The square norm of the residual vector is utilized for the orthogonal projection operation in this trial. Each sequential number is needed to be superimposed over the part of input pattern vector at the memorizing process, which leads to the parabolic trajectory of the residual square norm at the recalling process. Thus one of the reference patterns can be pointed out by the vertex of this parabola. Some experimental simulations are made for confirmation of this system performance using randomized pattern vectors for input images.

    A contact motion of a robotic manipulator to a workpiece is a fundamental operation which occurs frequently. The contact motion is a very short time phenomenon, and if we use only feedback control scheme, it is difficult to realize a desirable contact motion. In previous works, we have proposed a control method of contact force with a learning method for single degree of freedom manipulators. The learning control is based on an iterative operation, and is one of feedfoward controls which do not need precise values of the system parameters. In this paper, firstly, we expand the learning method to a method for two degrees of freedom manipulators. There exist many problems in case of learning normal and tangential components of an approaching velocity to a workpiece independently. So, we show a new learning algorithm keeping a ratio of a normal component to a tangential one constant. Secondly, we study effects of some parameters on a learning robustness and finally show some simulation results to verify feasibility of the proposed method.

    A new fault diagnostic method is proposed to diagnose the multiple faults in dynamic systems. This system consists on-line model identification, on-line fault detection and off-line fault identification which are further divided into fault location and fault estimation. The fault location is executed by a multiple hypothesis test method on physical parameters for both single and multiple faults. The characteristics of the fault location are analyzed by introducing orthogonal projections on subspaces in the Euclid vector space. The results of simulation studies on motor-driving systems are explained.

    No detailed investigation on odor recognition using gas sensors and neural network has yet been reported. In this work, an array of tin oxide-based semiconductor gas sensors having varying sensitivity were exposed to 11 organic solvent vapors. The response data to organic vapors were analyzed by pattern recognition techniques. The discriminant analysis demonstrated good recognition of organic vapors tested, though it was difficult to discriminate between ethanol and propanol. The application of the same response data to neural network was found to produce an improvement in recognition. The odor recognition method has been successfully applied to perfumed products.

    A stereoscopic force display system is developed for the cutting of stereoscopic 3-D image according to stereoscopic view by binocular parallax. An edged-tool with 3 degrees of freedom is developed for the realization of reactive force feeling on the cutting into stereoscopically displayed image. A cutting-off shape is given as a trajectory of an edged-tool with its indicator synthesized as a stereoscopic image. The reactive force is given to the tool, by which fingers obtain feeling of cutting according to the characteristics of a given material. The stereoscopic image after cutting is obtained making clear a trace of edge point of an edged-tool with rest domains characterized by different colors. An image of a sphere is used as a virtual object whose cutting gives reactive force feeling according to its given characteristics.

    One of cogent ways to express uncertain systems is to describe them by polytopes of polynomials. Uncertainities are represented in this case as a convex hull of the upper or lower bound for the range of coefficients of characteristic polynomials of the systems. It is known that stability of polytopes of polynomials can be determined by that of edge polynomials, i.e., polynomials that span the convex hull. This gives rise to the stability test of convex combinations of two polynomials. Several methods are currently available for that purpose and they have their own advantages and disadvantages.
    In this paper, new alternative stability criteria are provided for convex combinations of two polynomials, covering some disadvantages of the existing methods. The criteria are algebraic and required computation terminates with finite steps resorting neither to matrix inversions nor to solving polynomial equations as demanded in the existing methods. The second feature is that the case where degree difference exists between the two vertex polynomials can be naturally incorporated without demanding specific considerations. The criteria can also yield analytic conditions for low-degree polynomials. It is furthermore pointed out that allowable relative degree for stability is only two.
