    We have measured the electron energy distributions in He DC glow discharge under the condition of 0.5-2.5 Torr, 5-35mA, using Langmuir probe by the second harmonic method.
    Distortion of the second derivative characteristic can't be neglected, because our probe is designed a large size for the measurement of the high energy part of the electron energy distribution. Therefore minimum, zero, maximum points of the second derivative exist at different probe potentials, and determination of the space potential is difficult.
    In this paper, we quantified the probe circuit impedance and the ion current, and corrected the second derivative. We simulated the distortion of the second derivative due to a finite probe length and the fluctuation of the space potential. As a result, we confirmed that the inclination and the unevenness of the second derivative (which determine the shape of the electron energy distribution) appear in a high probe bias part from the maximum point of the second derivative characteristic. We found that a reference point of Druyvesteyn's principle exists at the maximum point for a distorted second derivative, and that the space potential lies at the zero point for a nondistorted characteristic.

    Pulsating corona discharges on high voltage transmission lines are the major sources of radio and television interference. In consideration of multiple corona discharges it seems that noise frequency spectrum and level would be affected to a great extent by the waveform, pulse ampulitude and repetition rate of the corona pulse. This paper describes the experimental results with the various curvature needle electrodes used as models of line conductor surfaces in order to clarify the fundamental effect of DC corona pulse on the noise over the VHF band.

    Performance of non-ceramic insulators is strongly related to hydrophobicity of the surface. Therefore, it is useful to evaluate the characteristics of the surface of organic insulating materials. To characterize the methods for the evaluation, some measurements were conducted on silicon rubber(SR), EPDM, PMMA and polyethylene (PE). The influence of irradiation with a mercury lamp was detected through measurements of contact angle, formation time of water film, and mass analysis of released gases under irradiation of electron beam.
    Measurement of the contact angle by using polar and non-polar liquids revealed that silicon rubber (SR) was the most resistant against UV irradiation. SR also showed recovery of hydrophobicity after UV irradiation. Measurement of the current flowing across the surface of materials exposed to artificial fog showed good agreement to the measurement of contact angle. Infrared absorption spectroscopic analysis enabled to detect the intensity of oxidation of highly UV-deteriorated organic insulating materials. Radicals on the surface of specimens were specified from the result of mass analysis of released gases. From these results, the nature of deterioration of organic insulating materials irradiated by UV is discussed.

    The asymptotic estimation I method which enables one to evaluate the energy depth of carrier trap from the 1st order thermally stimulated current (TSC) curve is proposed. This method uses three fundamental elements, the peak temperature and two coordinates. Two coordinates can be used in two ways, only one coordinates are shifted with another fixed coordinates and coupled coordinates with constant temperature interval ΔT are moved on the TSC curve. The I method with small ΔT has very high sensitivity to the TSC curve fluctuation. This fine characteristic enables one to detect the peak temperature involved in the obscure case whether the objective TSC curve is single or not, and it leads to separating their curves. Additionally, the I method can detect background noise involved in the TSC data and remove it to a sufficient extent.

    Nonpolar polymers such as polyethylene or polypropylene are widely used as insulation materials. Their operating conditions often involve high electric field and high temperature. Under these conditions the conduction loss due to DC like carrier transport may contribute high field AC dissipation factor (tanδ).
    This paper describes high field dielectric properties of polyethylene films measured from 50Hz to 400Hz above room temperature to 100°Cwith the new-type electrodes developed by authors. In the high temperature region, AC dissipation current waveform at 50Hz was also measured. Around room temperature, electric field dependence of tanδ is independent of the frequency of the applied field. However, at high temperatures, the high field tanδ tends to have large field dependence and to be almost inversely proportional to the frequency. Namely, the AC conductivity becomes independent of the frequency of the applied field in high field and high temperature regions. The theoretical analysis shows that the high field dielectric loss is governed by two processes. One is the dielectric relaxation loss inherent to AC field. Another is the DC like carrier transport loss which comes to prominent in the high temperature region, where AC dissipation current waveform deforms from the sinusoidal one.

    TiO2 thin film was prepared by sol-gel method using a metal alkoxide [Ti(O-i-Pr)4 tetra isopropoxisi titanium; TIPT]. The crystalline form of the film is changed by the condition for preparing sol and heat treatment temperature. When the ratio (γ) of H2O to TIPT is 7, the crystalline phase is found at 400°C. On the other hand, for γ=2 it is found at 500°C. The crystalline form was anatase for both γ=2 and γ=7. It was found that the electrical conductivity of TiO2 film increased with increasing the heat treatment temperature.
