Time-resolved measurements of the space charge distribution were carried out by the pulsed electroacoustic method around water trees in crosslinked polyethylene. From the results, the conductivity and permittivity of water trees are estimated. The conductivity of the water-treed region is found to be more than 10
6, times higher than that of the non-treed region, while the permittivity increase is only a few times.
