The library of the Musashimurayama Hospital was started in 2005 with the establishment of the hospital. The daily work of the library has been performed by a medical office secretary. Due to the lack of space, the library committee decided to dispose of a certain amount of the holdings in January 2013. First, the rules of disposal were drawn up, and then, according to the rules, 1,564 journal volumes out of 8,092 books and journal volumes were chosen for disposal. Of the 1,564 volumes, 115 were distributed to staff of the hospital and 1,449 were purchased by a recycling dealer. In July 2013, the disposal process, which was carried out by a single secretary, was completed and the occupancy of the stacks decreased from 80% to 66%. (Igaku Toshokan. 2014;61(4):278-282)

The Tokyo Medical University Main Library was relocated to a new building in September 2013. This paper describes how the Library has resolved issues caused by its relocation. The total space of the new Library is only 70% of the previous space. As a result, the Main Library had to reduce its holdings from 90,000 volumes to 70,000 volumes, and the 20,000 volumes that were removed were transferred to branch libraries. The Library also reviewed its journal subscription titles, reduced duplications, and re-designed new collection assignments on a university-wide basis. The new Main Library has also integrated its reading spaces into one area, installed a new security gate, and is now open 24 hours. Since its relocation, the number of Library visitors has been increasing.
