Tokyo Women’s Medical University Historical Material Section has received a few references from overseas researchers regarding the state of women’s medical education in “overseas territories”, and we investigated the materials again. The archives investigation consisted of 1) reviewing the materials held by our archives, such as “Joikai,” the school newsletter before the war, and 2) viewing materials held by national and public institutions. We discovered 4 letters in the “SaitoMakoto-relateddocuments”heldbyThe ModernJapanese Political History Materials Room of the National Diet Library, including one requesting a meeting between an “overseas territories” student and the Governor-General of Korea. Since these investigations do not use medical materials but general historical materials, we surveyed other medical libraries regarding their reference services for humanities materials, and received responses from 13 libraries. About a half of the respondent libraries held materials related to pre-war international students’ acceptance, and some of the libraries made these materials available for online viewing. Only one library had the complete set of school newsletters, and nearly 80% of the libraries could provide some information on rosters.
