This study is based on an analysis of the number and nationality of contributors drawn from 179 articles in “Advances in Immunology” in the period between 1961 and 1983.
Analysis for ranking list of serial journals, distribution of contries and subjects was carried out on the data of 13, 222 references drawn from 39 articles in “Advances in Immunology” in the period between 1978 and 1982.
The following results were obtained.
1) Analyzing the number of contributors revealed that 90.5% of the articles were witten by one or two persons. While the countributors came from 14 contries, 218 (75.70%) were from the U. S. A.
2) Serial journals accounted for 92.66% of all references, non-serials for 7.07%.
3) J. Immunol. (16.57%) and J. Exp. Med. (15.13%) were the most important serial journals cited in “Advances in Immunology”
Fifty serial journals from the top of the ranking covered 84.27% of all references.
4) The median citation age of the serial journals was 5.5 years old.
5) Serial Journals were published in 28 countries, and the U. S. A. accounted for 254 (68.60%) of the titles cited.
6) There were 48 subjects of serial journals. Forty-three serial journals (38.83%) covered Medical Science-Allergology and Immunology.
