We studied the gas components contained in the smog generated from a piece of pork meat irradiated by a carbon dioxide laser scalpel.Gas sample was taken up into the analysis device at several points close to the irradiaiton spot. The analysis means are as follow : Salzman Reagent for NOx, infrared spectroscopy for HCHO, and gas detector tube for CO, CO_2,CH_3COOH, HCHO, SO_2,H_2S, CH_3SH and CH_3NH_2.The analysis was bone at the laser power of 20 and 40 W for a few minutes irradiation. The concentration of NOx, CO, and CO_2 were 0.01-0.05,4-20 and 400ppm, respectively. The maximum of HCHO and CH_3COOH were 7.3 and 6 ppm, respectively. Among sulfur compounds, H_2S of 0.5-2ppm and CH_3SH of 1-4ppm were observed, but SO_2 was not detected. The concentration of CH_3NH_2 was as high as several tens ppm. Those of NOx, CO and CO_2 are rather lower than the stadards of air pollution in working room. The others are far beyond the threshold limits for offensive smell and, especially, those of HCHO, CH_3SH and CH_3NH_2 are higher than the standards for working room air.A preliminary test for somg scavenging was proceeded. The apparatus composed of a intake cone, a inlet tube and a suction pump effectively lowered the gas concentration arround the meat. A filter set in the cone captured quite a big quantity of micro-particle and tar like material.
