In our department three kinds of spiral ultraviolet generating tubes : X, Y and Z were provided experimentally. The bacteriocidal effects were exermed various bacteria.As a result, at the following conclusions were obtained.1. The radiation energy outputs of these ultraviolet generating tubes were 8470-22680μw/cm^2 for X, 8960-22820μw/cm^2 for Y and 16380-31700μw/cm^2 for Z.2. The becteriocidal duration effect by X was 5 to 60 seconds, those by Y and Z were 5 to 15 seconds, after that time the remaining bacteried were found.3. A prolonged radiation was found to be necessary for the spores of Bacillus subtilis.4. These disinfecting lamps are capable of killing various kinds of pathogenic bacteria in a short period of time and it is thought possible to put them to various applications easily.
The smog induced by YAG-CO_2 complex laser was studied in the point of room air pollution.The complex laser is the newly developed by Ihara et al. (members of the present authors).The laser instrument was practiced at a power of YAG 50W combinated with CO_2 power of 10W or 30W and the generated gas was analyzed by a similar method described in our previous paper.The observed concentration of HCHO and CH_3COOH were 5 and 18 ppm, respectively, at their maximum. Those of SO_2,H_2S and CH_3SH were 3,3 and 2 ppm, respectively. A quite high level of CH_3NH_2 concentration was found as more than 90 ppm. These are far higher than the limit for offensive amell and considerably higher than the standard for working room air.A scavenging system, the same one used for YAG laser study, worked very well in cleaning the polluted air sucked into the system. The observed fact was that the gas concentrations in the off air from the suction pump were almost zero level ppm except a few ppm of CH_3COOH, and that a filter placed in the intake cone collected micro-particle and tar like material weighing 350 mg together for 4 minutes laser irradiation.
