To develop a new type of bipolar surgical unit, which is applicable to cutting as well as coagulating, basic studies and practical investigations through experiments are done from several points of view, such as the improvement of blade shapes and their materials, isolation of bipolar blades making use of an isorationg transformer, method of feeding the HF power to the blades, especially to match the electrical impedance, total design and integration of the whole unit, etc. Future directions of the development and problems to be solved are also discussed to some extent.
