A new fluidized bed boriding fumace system was applied to the surface modifying of S. G. Iron and S45C Steel. The tests were made on the hardnessmeasurements, the microscopy, X-ray diffractometry, the electron microprobe X-ray analyzer, and the sliding wear characteristics under dry condition of boronized specimens.
As a result, the boronized layers on both the S. G. Iron and S45C Steel consisted of two inter-metallic compounds (FeB, Fe
2B), and the boronized S. G. Iron and S45C Steel showd far better wear resistance than the softnitrided S. G. Iron and S45C Steel.
It was found that the fluidized bed boriding method could be successfully applied to the surface modifying of S. G. Iron and S45C Steel.
