Engineering experts must acquire a liberal arts education to achieve the sustainable development goals
(SDGs), as established by the United Nations (UN) resolution. Japan was the first nation in the world to
establish a higher education curriculum for both engineering and sciences, as is represented by the
Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields. Since Japan is an advanced country
in engineering education, the liberal arts curricula related to engineering should be further developed, so
that its curricula may lead the way for the rest of the world. Thus, this paper will propose a curricula
construction method, drawing upon the fields of the humanities and sociology, from the aspect of
engineering education. Moreover, this paper also proposes the utilization of the education method
In this paper, the low cost gap switch was created for small student experiments. As a result, the gap
switch with a fall time of about 3.6 μs was created. And low voltage discharge experiments at 20 V was
observed chattering in about 1.5 ms cycle.
Regarding the chattering, it is assumed that there is no major problem. When a high voltage is applied,
it is expected that a discharge will occur before the ball gaps come into contact with each other and that
the gaps will be short-circuited by plasma. At this time, it is considered that the discharge is not
extinguished because the large current is flowing.
From these facts, this gap switch has sufficient turn on speed and pulsed rise times, it is considered to
endure practical use. Therefore, it is considered that the low cost gap switch for small student
experiments made in this paper can be fully used. In the future, it is considered that it is necessary for
practical use to experiment which applied high voltage.
With the aim of promoting global education, our fourth-year students visit Asian countries on an
overseas study trip each year. Students from the Department of Electronics and Information
Engineering visited Taiwan for five consecutive years from 2014 to 2018. They visited National
Taipei University of Technology twice and National Chiayi University thrice. This paper revisits
the content of the five years of our work towards encouraging international student interaction.
Collaborative experiments can bring about some degree of student interaction, but introverted
students still have difficulty in interacting. In 2018, students from Japan and Taiwan joined
together to solve physical dynamics exercises. They had icebreakers such as introducing
themselves and being seated next to each other to solve the problems. Almost all the Japanese
students said that they were able to interact with Taiwanese students. We demonstrate the
promotion of international exchange through teaching materials of international joint education.
The aim of this study is to utilization of survey materials in repair landscape project, exemplifying
“Higashiyama-higashi” Important Preservation District for Groups of Historic Buildings located in Ishikawa
Prefecture as a case study. In this paper, We focusing on Shutter（Amado） and surveyed by fieldworks and
questionnaires at 2 streets with different widths. Through this survey, we found the relationship between the change in the
appearance of the shutter and the width of the road.
