Engineering experts must acquire a liberal arts education to achieve the sustainable development goals
(SDGs), as established by the United Nations (UN) resolution. Japan was the first nation in the world to
establish a higher education curriculum for both engineering and sciences, as is represented by the
Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields. Since Japan is an advanced country
in engineering education, the liberal arts curricula related to engineering should be further developed, so
that its curricula may lead the way for the rest of the world. Thus, this paper will propose a curricula
construction method, drawing upon the fields of the humanities and sociology, from the aspect of
