Accident‑derived removed soil and waste generated through decontamination in Fukushima Prefecture are stored at the Interim Storage Facility before the final disposal outside Fukushima prefecture under national policy. This paper outlines the interim storage system and summarizes volume‑reduction treatment technologies, efforts to promote reuse as recycled materials, and knowledge obtained from demonstration projects. As a result, this paper demonstrates that the realization of reconstruction reuse and the final disposal outside Fukushima Prefecture requires diverse technical studies and interdisciplinary collaboration among engineers.
