Clinical observation on the disposition of paroxysmal blotchy blush, an important symptom of so called hypertensive diencephalic syndrome, firstly described by Page, were performed both on healthy young subjects and on patients with various diseases accompanied by this symptom.
Among 184 health young subjects, 14, namely 7.6% showed blotchy blush. Heredity of circulatory disorders including arterial hypertension was not significant in these persons.
Of 95 patients accompanied by blotchy blush siezures, the number of male patients was only a half of that of female. The age distribution of male patients ranged from 11 to 30 years in the majority, that of female having much wider range. The majority of female patients showing this symptom was distributed chiefly in the age over 30 years. Thus, a marked difference could be detected between male and female groups.
The most frequent diseases of those patients were hyperthyroidism, tonsillitis, splanchnoptosis, essential hypertension and pleurisy.
The onset of blotchy blush disposition was estimated before 30 years of age in general, simultaneously with the begin of chronic tonsillitis, gastro or splanchnoptosis, hyperthyroidism etc., so that a close relationship could be presumed between the blush and those diseases.
It is interesting that those patients had generally many other findings and complaints coincident with Page's so called hypertensive diencephalic syndrome.
