During 1960-Oct. …1963-Feb., we found 35 cases of VUR in 400 retrograde or voiding cystourethrogramms, which were performed for infants or children with pyelonephritis, imperforated anus, abdominal tumours, various urological diseases or with disorders in other systems. 14 boys, 21 girl, and 9 cases of right side, 10 of left, and 16 of bilateral reflux,
We recognized that the incidence of reflux decreases according as children become elderer;28.2% in 0 to 1 year old, 13.5% in 1 to 3 years old, 5.6% in 3 to 6, 3.5% in 6 to 15.
Pyuria or bacteriuria were revealed at the first time of the cystogramms in 13 cases, who had never signs of urinary tract infection, while other 7 cases had nothing of any pathological elements in their urine.
Having been analysed 13 cases, which were examined repeatedly over 3 times in a year, they could be classified to three groups.
Group-I;VUR was demonstrated on the cystogramm only once at the first examination, and afterwards, no more reflux and no pyuria: 7 cases,
Group-II;VUR was demonstrated at every times of examinations and the reflux was progressively worse: 4 cases.
Group-III;VUR was sometimes intensive, but sometimes disappeared: 2 cases,
We concluded that,
(1) demonstrable uropathy is not always found in case of VUR, ;
(2) the more young the child is, the more often VUR is discovered.;
(3) we experienced often such a case, which has no pyuria or no bacteriuria, but vivid VUR exists, and which has clearly urinary tract infection, but no VUR.;
(4) we have to consider more seriously the indication for the VUR. It needs to observe repeatedly those cases to find the operation chance, for one year, at least, or more over, if possible.;and
(5) voiding cystourethrogramm is absolutely necessary to find the VUR;there are many cases, which VUR are found only by the voiding cystogram, in spite of nothing by the retrograde cystogramm.
