In this paper, we will show new physical factors which are found based on key assessment words for reproduction of high order sensation. Key assessment words are found to be semi-metric and represent the high order sensation. It has been experimentaly proved that the key assessment words represent the over all sound quality including the high order sensation. We have analized the relation between the key assessment words and physical factors.

In this paper some experimental results concerning adjustment of color balance among some images was described. At the last stage of our experiment, we have focused on the analysis of the color of gold. It is clarified that the of the gold are strongly affected by sharpness of spatial transition of lightness V in MTM and to maintain the delicate and large transition of V is most important.

"Extra High Quality Imaging" is important research theme, On "Extra High Quality Image System" it is important to transfer a "High Order Sensation". We defined" High Order Sensation" as the high level artistic impression (a atmosphere, a sense of presence and etc) which the paintings and sculptures of great artists conveyed in their arts. In order to reproduce an "Extra High Quality Image", it is not clear what kind of physical factor and Our new method to find important physical factors and characteristics start from the assessment words of high order sensation and their keyword which is the representation of the high order sensation. As a result, we find a new characteristics : the cross modulation among R, G and B. The cross modulation are measured, and the relations between the cross modulation and a key word : "the depth of an image" are assessed and discussed.

In virtual environment with the HMD and the headphone, we estimated the head movement induced by as follows. (Ex. 1 : An audio-visual stimulus which rotates around the head. Ex. 2 : A visually rocking stimulus.) A 3D sound was processed by Convolvotron, and head movement was measured by OPTOTRAK. As a result, it has arisen the head movement correspondent to the revolving frequency (Ex. 1) and rocking frequency (Ex. 2) of stimulation. The head has moved remarkably, when both stimuli are synchronous (Ex. 1). It is supposed that this method is effective for quantitative estimation of reality.

We examine the construction factors of color sensitivity information which is perceived from monochromatic color. To examine the construction factors, we perform the subjective experiment based on the Semantic Differential method which is using 201 monochromatic colors and 15 adjective pairs. By applying the factor analysis, 3 kinds of significant factors named "Evaluation", "Potency" and "activity" are detected. This report also investigates the potential interpolation method to estimate factor scores of arbitrary color stimulus which was not examined. We have carried out the potential interpolation for several uniform color space, such as Munsell Renotation system, CIE L^*a^*b^* and CIE L^*u^*v^*. As results, the performance of the interpolation of the CIE L^*a^*b^* obtains the good estimation, and the average of the estimation error holds within the individual dispersion of the subjective experiment.

As graphical user interfaces (GUI) are widely used for human-computer interaction, keyboards as well as pointing devices, such as mice, become of importance. These input devices increase physical loads to operators hands and arms in addition to vision, but other human motor systems, such as feet and legs, seldom be used to interact with computers. We studied the feasibility of foot movement to interact with computers, and prototyped foot-operated pointing devices using plane foot movement on floor and foot inclination on pedal. We found the performance of foot-operated pointing devices of plane movement are comparable with those of hand-operated mice, and better than that of foot-operated devices of inclination.

We measured body sway while viewing stereoscopic images to investigate what conditions are important for producing images with "the sense of presence." We used image having binocular disparity to simulate a real plane moving in depth back and forth. The stimulus variable was the size of the moving plane. Most entropy method was used to analyze the body sway data. The moving images produced body sway. The local peaks of the power spectrum data were observed at the frequencies of the image motion for many observers. The stimulus size affected the magnitude of body sway. The levels of the local peaks were greater for the stimuli with large moving plane.

The subjective relative depth and size of stereoscopic images, as a function of the geometrical image distance, were measured using a matching method which adjusts the depth and size of a reference until the two are subjectively equivalent. In the results, the subjective depth and size increased as the subjective distance increased, which itself was found to be a sigmoid function of the convergence distance. It was also derived that the subjective depth and size of an object image in front of a screen are enlarged and behind the screen are reduced comparing with the geometric depth and size of the image.

A new visual effect-Pantomime Effect has been found in 3-D illusory object perception with binocular viewing. It is induced by the visual stimuli of some inducing objects arranged in suitable relations. which are named sustaining cues. According to the positions of sustaining cues, we found that they played different roles in this perception, and classified them into three types : front sustaining cues, side sustaining cues and back sustaining cues. It is also found that this effect was closely related to occlusion cues ; especially pantomime effect by mere front sustaining cues can be regarded as a kind of bulky occlusion in opaque object perception.

The past few years have seen greater efforts on the development of a three-dimensional television. The field-sequential stereoscopic display, which shows the right-eye and left-eye images alternately, is one of the most promising stereoscopic television systems at the moment. This study focuses on the scanning of field-sequential stereoscopic pictures-we examined picture quality and conducted an evaluation test using a system with 525 scanning lines and 120Hz field frequency. The results show that the 4 : 2 or 4 : 1 interlace method, which maintains high vertical resolution, is superior to simple 2 : 1 interlace in the quality of pictures displayed. We also made an experimental field-sequential stereoscopic system for HDTV with 4 : 2 interlace. With this 1125-scanning prototype system, we tested picture quality and confirmed that it is possible to display high-quality stereoscopic HDTV pictures of full 1125-line vertical resolution.

Telecommunications Advancement Organization of Japan (TAO) had made OB-Van, which had three stereoscopic HDTV cameras and other peripheral equipments, such as D-VTRs, special video-switcher for 3D-HDTV, etc.. We had produced two 3D-HDTV popular music programs on real-time switching and showed these programs to over 50 persons. We sent out questionnaires to these persons. We discussed the 3D-program production methods with the result of the questionnaires.
