We have started a long hours live telecast which makes the most of the characteristics of the sattelite broardcasting. We aimed at showing distinctive nature, history and culture in a local area. Concept of this program is that viewers take part in the program and that we introduce the area throughly for the people to find out this herltage that should be kept to the next 21-st century. I will make a report on the broadcasting plan, technical outline and effects of our 10 houes live telecast "Ohooi nippon! Kyoh wa Tokoton Toyamaken" which was bloardcasted for the first time in a series.

NHK broadcasted live HD-TV 2-hour program "This is Naiagara Falls" at 22;00 JST, 9 : 00 local time on Septenber 12 th. Mobile units were placed on both Canada and America side and 12 cameras were uused. Live-mobile system was also used from on deck of tourboat "Made of the Mist" on Canada-hall for the first time. Viewrs could receive dynamic shot such as from Hurricane Deak of America-Fall. Data compression by digital codec was used for the transmission on 45MHz. Transmission originated at Naiagara Falls to Fillmore earthstation in California was done by domestic Ga1axy satellite, and NHK dedicated circuit on Intelsat was used for over Pacific to tokyo.

We have produced the 'smapling frequency conversion system' to enable to connect directly, as they could remain digital signal, the MD (Mini Disk) system which were induced as a player of sponsor-comment with AES/EBU equipment. By using this system, we will be able to convert the digital audio signal such as MD and consumer CD player output to the signal which digital VTR accept directly. On exploiting this new conversion system, we have thought much of enough performance and reliance as broadcasting equipment, low cost making, and short term producing. Our company has carried out the every process from planning to construction.

When the illumination changes from the indoor light to the sun light on the location photography by the television, the color temperature changes and the color balance of the photography picture collapses mainly. In the past, we mechanically set a camera with the color temperature revision filter which is made of colored glass or electrically collect using the color collector on the side of the camera. However, these metiod are not so good way. So, we designed and made the filter which is made of liquid device that we can control color temeprature fast and smooth.

An ultra-high-sensitivity HDTV color camera has been developed using 3 proximity focused image intensifier tubes of large image size (useful area 40 mm DIA.) and 3 FIT CCDs of 2/3-inch 2M-pixels. It has a high sensitivity of 3000 times as same as conventional HDTV CCD cameras. It makes possible to shoot high-quality realtime-images of meteor nebulae and galaxies.
