We have developed a digital still camera system processing images by combination of hardware and software to meet the demand of both high speed and flexibility. The system is capable of processing most of the CCDs with image size from VGA(640×480) to SXGA(1280×960), scan type of progressive and interlaced, and color filter of primary RGB and complementary MGCY. The still image processing time for YUV conversion completes approximately in one frame for the progressive scan type CCD.

We have developed the PDR-5 digital still camera, which incorporates a 350,000-pixel CMOS sensor and features compact size and low power consumption. The PDR-5 is equipped with a 2.5-inch reflection type LCD and the Smart Media stamp-size removable flash memory. It also has a PC card interface conforming to the Personal Computer Memory Card International Association (PCMCIA) standard, enabling quick and easy image transfer with PCs having a PC card slot. The recorded images can be viewed on the LCD monitor of camera, or by connecting the camera to a home TV set. Moreover, by using the supplied application software for PCs, the images can be easily edited after transferring them to a PC.

We have developed a 2.02 Million-pixel (1636×1236) interlaced-scan CCD image sensor for digital still cameras. It has a 1/2-inch optical format with 3.9μm square pixel and 4 : 3 aspect ratio. While having a large number of pixel, we have achieved high performance of saturation signal, sensitivity and smear. In addition, we have developed a new small, thin and high precision package.
