We have been developing hundreds of Mbps transmission technologies using Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) in 42-GHz band for SHV (Super Hi-Vision) transmission. In this report, we propose a low-complexity MIMO detection scheme which uses sorted block QR-decomposition to improve MIMO detection algorithm and to reduce the computational complexity. Computer simulations under a 4x4 MIMO channel with QPSK demonstrate that the proposed scheme shows about 1.4 dB of average received CNR improvement over previous proposed scheme which uses normal block QR-decomposition.

NHK is conducting research on the next-generation of digital terrestrial broadcasting using UHF band to enable large-volume content services such as Super Hi-Vision. As a technology of SFN for the next-generation of digital broadcasting, we have studied an STC-SDM scheme that combines STC with SDM transmission using dual-polarized ultra-multilevel OFDM signals. We developed an experimental transmission system and evaluated the transmission characteristics in laboratory and field experiments. We confirmed the advantage of the STC-SDM scheme compared with the conventional SFN scheme and we tested the terrestrial transmission of Super Hi-Vision in an SFN environment.

NHK is conducting research on the next generation of digital terrestrial broadcasting to enable large-volume content services such as Super Hi-Vision (8K). In dual polarized MIMO transmission, we applied LDPC (Low Density Parity Check) code to FEC (Forward Error Correct). For the next generation of digital terrestrial broadcasting, the required C/N (Carrier to Noise Ratio) needs to be decreased in order to receive the signal over the air robustly. Then, we study the spatially coupled LDPC code that is known as higher performance FEC code than conventional LDPC code, and created the parity check matrix on trial. In the report, we applied the spatially coupled LDPC codes to the dual polarized MIMO - ultra-multilevel OFDM transmission, and report the BER (Bit Error Ratio) performance of the transmission system with the computer simulation.

This paper demonstrates a new approach in reliable channel estimation for Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex (OFDM) using Matching Pursuit Algorithm (MP). Although MP-based channel estimation algorithm is capable of improving the accuracy of channel estimation, it requires huge computational cost. It was shown using the simulation results that the MP was able to validate decent channel estimation.

FPU (Field Pick-up Unit) system using OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) in 700MHz band is used for outside broadcasting of road races. The frequency of 700MHz band FPU is planned to migrate to 1.2 and 2.3 GHz bands. In this report, we describe some results of transmission characteristics of SISO (Single-Input Single-Output) and 2x2 MIMO (Multiple-Input Multiple-Output) schemes and delay profiles in 2.3 GHz band on some parts of the "Hiroshima Ekiden" course.

In this paper, we report the server performance evaluation result of delivering emergency information on V-Low multimedia storage-based broadcasting. After the Grate East Japan Earthquake, Storage-based broadcasting has attracted attention, which can deliver emergency information. We developed the storage-based broadcasting server and applied FLUTE protocol to it as ISDB-Tsb IP packets delivery method. And we had evaluated the server by experiments: we confirmed that it could deliver three types of emergency information with forward error coding within a second.
