Oral disease has been known as one of the health burden around the world in a wide range of ages. Its treatment requires a large amount of money. In many countries, 5 to 10 percent of the expenditures on health care is paid for oral treatment cost. However, the way of prevention is only brushing one’s teeth properly every day. So the objective evaluation of one’s tooth brushing is an effective method to solve it.
In this study, we have focused on the development of the tooth brushing advising system with i-brush which has 3-axis accelerometer, 3-axis gyro scope and force sensor at the tip in it. In particular, we are designing the following two items, (1) The area which is brushed based on the 16 split oral model. (2) Three brushing motion which is used (Horizontal motion, Circle motion, Vertical motion ).
This paper describes the result of the motion recognition (Horizontal motion, Circle motion, Vertical motion ) . As the result using the sensors described above and neural network by 5 subjects, it is found that 75% of the brushing motion is correctly estimated.
