The purpose of this paper was to study the distribution of phagocytic cells in the ton-gue of the rats. Two ml of 2.5%water soluしion of lithium carmine(L. C.)and 4%water solution of trypan blue(T. B.)were administered subcutaneously to the Wister-strain male rats daily for one week. Specimen for light microscopic observation was prepared in usual way. Numerous pha・ gocytic cells were seen ill the tongue of the rats. But the dyes were not found in the mucous epit-helial cell and endothelial cell of the capillary. Number of the phagocytic cell in T, B. injected group were significantly greater than tho3e in L. C. injected group. The increased cell due to ad・ ministration of T. B. was chiefly round cell, that was particularly conspicuous in the muscle layer of the root and the subepithelial connective tissue of the body of tongue. As to distribution of the phagocytic cells in the tongue, they were remarkable in the tip of tongue(p<0.05).

The evoked cortical potentials(EP), elicited by electrical stimulation of the oral structures, such as palate, gingiva, tongue and tooth pulps, were recorded in somatosensory areasSI and SII. Then, the height of the positive primary responses were measured and topographicalchanges of excitability in the cortices were manifested with three dimensional pictures, or contour lines, of a given voltage in amplitude of the EP. It was found that the foci projecting from the oral cavity were located on the circumscribed region of the anterior coronal gyrus and overlapped partially on the“facial projection area”, which was reported by Woolsey et al. The foci were innervated bilaterally in a manner of contralateral dominance. The density of projection fromthe maxilla was found to be higher at the foci than that from the mandible. When the stimulus sites were moved in rostropharyngial direction of the palate, amplitude of the EP obtained by stimulation of the rostral mucus membrane were larger than that obtained by stimulation of the pharyngial one. This finding indicated that the projection from the palate showed a rostral dominance. It was, however, difficult to recognize the homologous representation of the oral cavity on the surface of the coronal gyrus. The projection area obtained by mechanical stimuliwhich were applied to the medial part of the palate was situated rostrally 2-3mm apart from the areas obtained by electrical stimulation at the same place. These results, mentioned above, were compared with other authors’findings and briefly discussed.

A rare case of traumatic herniation of buccal fat pad has been reported.

A boy,1year 2 months of age, was brought to the imergency room of our hospital. His mo-ther told that the child had fallen while playing with a tooth-brush, and stabbed the tooth-brush tip into his mouth. Examination of the child’s face and mouth revealed slight swelling on the right side of the face and a red-brown tumor protruding through the buccal mucosa. The child was excited, uncooperative, and in moderate discomfort.

With the patient under general anesthesia, the fat pad was grasped with forceps and gently pushed through the laceration and into its space. Then the wound was closed with No.4-0 Dexion sutures.

The postoperative course was unevenful, and there was only moderate swelling in the right ch・eek. The patient was discharged from the hospital on the ninth day after admission.

Six weeks after discharge from the hospital, examination revealed that all edema had disappe-ared and the buccal tissues had completely healed.
