  • 三種類の人格否定をめぐる哲学的考察

    According to the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare’s guidelines on power harassment (workplace bullying), “denial of person” is a typical example of power harassment. But what exactly does “denial of person” mean? And what constitutes the “denial of person”? This paper addresses these issues by categorizing “denial of person” into three types and offering some criteria for determining power harassment. This paper first clarifies the conditions for justifying reprimands. Next, we identify three types of “denial of person”: negative evaluation of a person’s moral character, negative evaluation of a person’s personality, and the denial of a person as a rational being. After arguing that “denial of person” damages a person’s self-respect, we examine whether each type of “denial of person” constitutes power harassment. In conclusion, we show that some “denial of person” is justifiable under certain circumstances.

    This paper analyzes the impact of autonomy supportive leadership on sales organization performance. Data was collected through a questionnaire survey in car dealerships. Hierarchical multiple regression analysis was conducted. As a result, autonomy supportive leadership had a positive impact on showroom sales. It was also shown that customer targeting may enhance the effects of autonomy supportive leadership. These findings show that autonomy supportive leadership is also useful for improving performance at the sales organization, and that organizational context such as the showroom's marketing strategy is also important.

    This study aims to elucidate the mechanism of alliances between companies and competitors in the context of sustainability strategies, and examines alliance cases of companies working on sustainability strategies together with competitors. Specifically, I take up and analyze an alliance case of Oita bank. This case study is an alliance that simultaneously collaborates with local governments, which are positioned as non-cooperating stakeholders like its competitors, and develops projects aimed at resolving regional issues. As a result of the analysis, it was pointed out that in traditional business, there is a low degree of interdependence in alliances between companies and competitors that have a horizontal relationship, but in this case, it was derived that the situation is high. It was also found that alliance managers play a key role in conducting interorganizational learning with competitors. It was also confirmed that Oita Prefecture, which plays a mediator role, has an important position.

    This paper follows the organizational culture, business and society and other theories, and explains that the Purpose concept is based on the perspective of controlling the increase in corporate value, which consists of financial and non-financial value in a long-term prosperous firm, and that it is consistent with the current Purpose concept. However, since this perspective is the result of an analysis focusing on large, publicly traded firms, the paper examines whether it can be applied to regional family firms as well. The analysis of the three long-term surviving case study firms shows that these firms have formed the Purpose Concept as needed and that they have contributed to regional revitalization. We also find that the weight of the Purpose concept in management is lower in these firms than in the listed firms. However, these firms were found to have a preliminary concept of the Purpose concept.

    The author empirically analyses the attributes of companies that issue ESG bonds, based on the motivations of both investors and issuing companies. Using data from 1,421 listed companies in Japan for the fiscal year 2021, a logit analysis was conducted, with the dependent variable being whether the company issued ESG bonds. The findings indicate that companies that are more environmentally conscious, actively address social issues through their business, disclose ESG information, incorporate ESG indicators into executive compensation, and maintain a higher debt ratio are more likely to issue ESG bonds. However, a company's stance on human rights does not reflect a significant relationship with ESG bond issuance. This is because ESG bonds have historically been driven by environmental concerns, and human rights issues currently do not exert a strong influence on ESG bond issuances.

    This study explores how female outside directors of regional banks use their abilities to become involved in management and contribute to improving business performance. Female outside directors of regional banks are mainly audit committee members. While the individual work experience of some of the female outside directors confirmed their personnel skills, the basis for the company's claim of their personnel skills was unclear in some cases. A comparison of the skills of female outside directors with management strategies revealed that many companies have problems in aligning their skills with their strategies. In order to further increase the number of female outside directors, it is necessary to examine what skills are required to address specific issues in management strategy.

    This research analyzes the ”leakage of the female pipeline” within Japanese companies. While there are two types of leakage of pipeline, one is horizontal segregation other one is vertical segregation. This research focuses on vertical segregation. By evaluating the efforts of Japanese companies to promote female's participation from the perspectives of internal female executive officers, this research identifies key points for future initiatives to enhance female participation. In Japan, the ”Women's Version of the Basic Policy 2023” has set a new goal to increase the ratio of female executives to 30% by 2030. However, currently, only 8.4% of companies have achieved this 30% target. Ensuring the pipeline of female talent remains a significant challenge in reaching this goal. The methodology using involved conducting interviews with seven internal executive officers from Japanese companies, and analyzing the data using the Modified Grounded Theory Approach.

    This paper focuses on graduate retention rates and uses Cumulative Abnormal Return(CAR)to analyze whether firms with high graduate retention rates generate high stock returns. The results indicate that firms with high graduate retention rates tend to have higher stock returns. The CAR values, however, are not necessarily large and their statistical significance fluctuates. To maintain stable, high retention rates of new graduates, which reflect the quality of the work environment, it is assumed companies may need to incur certain costs. This paper suggests that these costs do not negatively impact firm performance. Therefore, it is particularly beneficial for the tertiary industries, which tend to have higher CAR, to improve their working environments to maintain high retention rates of new graduates and enhance corporate value.

    This paper revisits four coauthored papers by Porter & Kramer(1999;2002;2006;2011)and, through a discussion that traces the genealogy and transition of the CSV concept, shows that strategic philanthropy is the key to functionalizing the uniqueness of the CSV strategy. CSV focuses on elements of the social dimension rather than on the market or the business itself. However, unlike the logic of cluster development in general, it does not develop a competitive context in which companies can secure comparative advantage. The donor firm outsources to the recipient organizations the development of the donor company's business environment, using the corporate giving of the form of strategic philanthropy. The selection of suitable donors and the utilization of various characteristics of US nonprofit institutions form the basis of the uniqueness of the CSV strategy. Therefore, imitation that overlooks the essence of CSV strategy cannot hope to achieve sustainable competitive advantage.

    We examine whether individual investors influence corporate fraud. Using Japanese companies listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange from 2011 to 2022, we find a significant positive relationship between the percentage of shares held by individual investors and corporate fraud. This result indicates that individual investors have a lower monitoring effect on corporate fraud than institutional investors. In addition, we find that another corporate governance system mitigates the positive relationship between individual investors and corporate fraud.

    This study focuses on corporate support for stranded persons unable to return home during disasters, a form of corporate social responsibility(CSR). The author conducted a questionnaire survey and interviews with companies designated as temporary shelters by local governments, analyzing the current measures and challenges. As a result, differences in preparedness depending on the area and type of facility, as well as details of more sophisticated countermeasures, were revealed. Based on the survey, the author proposed strategies to promote corporate measures for assisting people unable to return home, such as the need to consider incentives, ways to reduce the burden on companies, and the importance of companies recognizing the benefits of taking such measures themselves.

    The purpose of this study is to clarify some of the reasons why the chronic phenomenon known as “safety insensitivity” persists in South Korea, based on research findings in cross-cultural psychology. The study reveals the following three reasons:(1)Behavioral inhibition occurs within a group of Koreans known as “Uri”;(2)Koreans have strong positive illusions, meaning that they believe unfortunate events happening around them will not happen to them;and(3)Koreans are other-blame oriented. The study proposes three solutions:(1)The existence of others known as “Nam” plays an important role in monitoring wrongdoing;(2)Implementing a system of accident monitors overseen by “Nam”;and(3)Enhancing education and training for safety management in schools and workplaces.

    Some Japanese companies follow the practice of creating memorials of their more serious work-place accidents. These “Places of Memory” serve to preserve memories and lessons learned from the accident. However, whereas some of these companies have used “Places of Memory” to achieve safety, others have gone on to again cause near accidents. In this study, we examine the case of Shigaraki Kohgen Railway(SKR), which had a head-on collision in 1991. This company recouped from the accident and, after resuming operations, they remained accident-free, even receiving a commendation from the Kinki District Transport Bureau. In order to gain insight, this study examines how the memory of the accident and the lessons learned were preserved. Specifically, an exploratory analysis of the accident history booklet published by SKR was conducted by KH Coder. As a result, it was clarified that High Reliability Organization components should be included in the accident history booklet.

    We investigated and analyzed whether originator companies are swiftly implementing LCM strategies based on a patient-first approach. Additionally, we also looked at authorized generics(AGs). There have been cases where adding an indication has significantly increased sales. These cases can be said to reflect patient needs. There have also been cases where adding dosage forms or a number of products was done early in the life cycle with patient needs. However, most additions of OD tablets and high dose products are thought to be countering generics in the mature stage. Next, it is thought that much of the information on AGs is provided by medical representatives from originator companies. Originator companies and their medical representatives are the ones who have the best understanding of efficacy, safety, and appropriate usage. Therefore, AGs can be said to be an LCM strategy that is beneficial to doctors, pharmacists, and patients.

    Japan is prone to natural disasters, making, risk management increasingly important in recent years. This study focuses on manufacturing firms in the western region of Shizuoka Prefecture, an area with a probability of a major earthquake. We analyzed risk information in security reports, examining how these companies address risk identification and information disclosure, and identified future issues. Our analysis revealed, differences in the degree of risk recognition and information disclosure by industry sector. Notably, a clear a link emerged between the disclosure of risk management systems and the number of risks disclosed. Regarding natural disaster risk, about half of the companies surveyed did not mention the Nankai Trough earthquake or BCP, indicating that corporate awareness and measures against natural disaster risk remain insufficient and must be strengthened in the future.

    The rapid advancement of Information and Communication Technology(ICT)has facilitated the widespread adoption of e-learning in both educational and corporate settings, offering benefits such as flexibility and the removal of geographical and time constraints. However, concerns about learning integrity, particularly dishonest behaviors and inappropriate learning practices, have surfaced. While research on issues like misconduct and unethical actions is abundant internationally, limited focus has been placed on these challenges in Japanese corporate environments. This study aims to fill this gap by investigating unethical e-learning practices among employees in large Japanese corporations. Using data from a web-based survey conducted in September 2024, this research examines the prevalence and causes of these practices and considers possible countermeasures. The findings provide practical insights for improving corporate e-learning and contribute to broader discussions on its role in modern corporate structures.
