Despite the broad spread of research endeavour in the economics of the arts and the significant achievements of some researchers in the field, there are still many unsolved theoretical and empirical problems in cultural economics awaiting investigation. This is not surprising, in view of the short history of the economics of the arts and the relatively small number of people undertaking serious research in the field. The purpose of this paper is to point to some promising lines for future research development in cultural economics. The coverage here does not pretend to be comprehensive; rather some specific issues are singled out which would appear to warrant further attention.
