    This study examined the actual state of local residents' evaluations of their living environment in the Aonae districtofOkushiriTown,Hokkaido,approximately 25 yearsafterreconstruction efforts,through a questionnaire survey.Theresultsshowedthat overallsatisfaction with the residentialarea washigh.Former residentswhoexperienced thedisasterandelderlyresidentstendedtohavehighsatisfactionwithfloodcontrolmeasures.However,satisfactionwith daily life convenience and residential comfort varied depending on whether residents were new or former residents and across generations. Furthermore, residents who lived in the Aonae district before the earthquake showed increased satisfaction with flood countermeasures when comparing living environments before and after the disaster. However, their satisfaction with daily convenience and interaction among residents decreased. Additionally, awareness of hazard mapsandevacuationroutes, participationindisasterdrills,anddailydisaster preparednessdiffered betweennewand old residentsand acrossgenerations,suggesting a weakening ofsituationaldisasterawareness.

    In recent years, port-based community development has advanced, redeveloping ports as hubs for urban planning. Meanwhile, abandoned railway lines within ports have increased since the 1980s, hindering the continuity between ports and their hinterlands. Therefore, it is necessary to explore utilizing these abandoned railway lines within ports to contribute to port-based community development. This study investigated the actual status of remaining abandoned railway lines in ports designated as important ports or higher nationwide. It examined their physical condition, the actual state of land use conversion, and their locational characteristics. The results are as follows. Abandoned railway tracks were confirmed in approximately 60% of the ports surveyed, and all of these sites had undergone land use conversion. However, conversions involving urban-type uses were limited. Furthermore, abandoned railway tracks classified as idle land were confirmed in all ports possessing such tracks. Among these, railway tracks with high priority for utilization based on location characteristics were identified in some ports, both for linear land and for area-type land.

    Sustainable utilization of the ocean is gaining attention for addressing global societal challenges. We aim to realize an "Ocean Digital Twin" that digitizes oceanic states for policy planning and pre-verification. Currently, we are promoting blue carbon initiatives in Japanese waters. This initiative requires quantifying CO2 absorption through blue carbon assessment, but traditional diver surveys have been time-consuming and labor-intensive. Therefore, we have developed an AI-driven technology for automatically classifying seaweed and seagrass bed types as defined by the Japan Blue Economy association, using images captured by underwater drones. This technology enables automatic classification in approximately 20 seconds per image, requiring only a single reference image per bed type species. Field experiments at 5 sites, targeting 7 bed types in Japanese waters, achieved an accuracy comparable to visual inspection (0.80 or higher). Moving forward, we aim to enhance generalization performance under diverse environmental conditions to expand its application in blue carbon assessment, leading to credit certification and related achievements.
