Support that infertile patients want from physicians and nurses working in a reproductive medicine setting: patients’ point of view Objective: The purpose of this study was to clarify the support that patients want from physicians and nurses in an infertility treatment setting. Methods: Thirty-four women who were currently undergoing or had previously undergone infertility treatment were recruited by snow-bowl sampling for participation in this survey. Descriptive data were qualitatively analyzed. Results: Analysis revealed four categories of support that patients would like to receive from physicians: “pursuit of treatments that are suitable for the individual patient”, “informed consent with sufficient and understandable information”, “collaborative leadership and professional doctor-patient communication”, and “empathetic attitude during consultation”. Regarding behaviors that patients wanted nurses to demonstrate, four categories emerged: “considerate and warm attitude”, “psychological support with an open and empathic attitude”, “support and facilitate communication between the physician and patient”, and “ensure that sufficient explanations and advice about medical procedures are provided”. Conclusion: Our study identified the types of support that patients want from physicians and nurses in an infertility treatment setting. Application of these results in clinical practice could contribute to infertile patients’ psychological well-being.

Recently, an active approach to utilize strength and increase the performance of adults with neurodevelopmental disorders has been expected for professionals and non-professionals, such as university faculty and managers. There has also been a call for a passive, listening-based approach in both higher education and occupational fields. Therefore, coaching has attracted attention because of its focus on clients’ strengths and goal attainment. This paper describes characteristics and common difficulties of adults with AD/HD, autism spectrum disorders, specific learning disorder, and borderline intellectual functioning, in addition to specific coaching approaches for each disorder. Finally, practical and research-related challenges of coaching for adults with neurodevelopmental disorders in Japan are discussed. To achieve a society in which developmentally-disabled individuals can obtain independent life the same as unimpaired people, coaching possibly undertakes an important role in extending consistent support from higher education to daily life, job hunting, and staying hired. There are three challenges to building an effective coaching system in Japan: conveying usefulness and demands for coaching, training practitioners, conducting randomized controlled trials to prove effectiveness of coaching for adults with neurodevelopmental disorders, and coaching skills training for non-professionals.

Today's society is experiencing chaos about what is right or wrong in the face of poverty, economic disparity, suicide, fraud, financial crisis, terrorism, abnormal climate, and so on. In this kind of reality, the framework of leadership used to be measured in absolute terms of interests between self and others, the weak and the strong, either as win-win or win-lose. In this framework, the strong are concerned about securing their own advantage whereas the weak defer leadership to other people. This paper will present the concept of the connotative self and the shared destiny platform with the environment that envelops the self. Also, this paper will address our unconscious desires as the subsistent agenda. This paper will propose solving modern society's problems by using the connotative self to search for one's subsistent agenda and practice leadership for oneself.

The process of the development in idea of “coaching” was investigated in this study. The origin of the word “coaching” is coaches, which was done in Kocs, a town in Hungary. Today, the word is defined as “ways of supporting clients for achieving self-actualization through conversations.” Books written by Gallway and Leonard, during the process of developing the above concept are cited. Moreover, the development of coaching in Japan is examined based on the database of the National Diet Library. It is suggested that the image of coaches related to fields of sports that was conducted up to the 1980s, might have affected the image of coaching in Japan. However, coaching is also conducted in the field of education. Furthermore, the perspective of “native coaches,” which is indicated by reviewing the history of coaching, suggests the possibility of qualitatively and quantitatively examining “differences in children’s thinking and expressive ability, depending on the presence of a native coach.”

Management by Objectives has been introduced in many companies as a part of extrinsic incentive systems. As a result, it is not unusual to have only one progress review, i.e., mid-term review. That is not sufficient from the intrinsic motivation’s point of view. If managers conduct progress reviews every month and recognize progresses and improvements of their subordinates, ensuring their autonomy, then that strengthens their feelings of relatedness and competence. When it is necessary to make adjustments in order to achieve objectives, managers can offer supports in a timely manner. That even enhances the relatedness. A trustworthy relationship will be established and effective countermeasures will be implemented smoothly, leading to better performance. They know the importance of democratic and coaching styles, however, managers tend to show too often authoritative and pace-setting managerial styles under the pressure of day to day management. Managers can lead and coach their subordinates in a more participative way by conducting monthly reviews.

University students need to develop their social competence during their time in a university in order to evolve into good adults for society. Meanwhile, it is an issue which cannot be ignored that students can’t consider themselves according to their self-evaluation. In this study, the importance of off campus experience was focused upon. To investigate the effects of student activities of off campus using Segway, students’ academic reports and the interviews with students were used to pursue this analysis. As a result, the experience of off campus activities had influenced students’ self-evaluation positively and it was observed that students came to integrate their studies on and off campus well. So, it is necessary to construct a system to see that all the learning of students becomes integrated so that they are able to externalize or express their thoughts and experiences through language.
