The purpose of this study was to assess the level of dissatisfaction in care for dying patients who are donors after cardiac death or brain death and their families, and to find out factors affecting nurse’s dissatisfaction.
The survey was conducted by autographic style questionnaire for 111 nurses who have experienced caring for donors and their families.
The main result were as follows:
・ Dissatisfaction level was higher in “emotional care for donor’s families”.
・ It was showed that the 8 variables of 11 predictor variables corrected to nurse’s dissatisfaction by correlation
coefficent analysis, and among these variables, especially, 【the embarrassment in caring】,【embarrassment resulting from medical team care】and【materials, facilities and environment in the hospital】affected nurse’s dissatisfaction by significantly multiple regression analysis.
These findings suggest that it was important for nurses to support “emotional care for donor’s families” sufficiently, and nurses recommended more education in the area of grief, crisis interventions. In addition, it’s important to improve the environment for donor care, and to support fulfilling its function of medical team care.
