    In oder to find out the most effective method of plutonium skin decontamination, removal tests were carried out with eleven typical decontaminants used in the form of aqueous solutions. The contaminant chosen was plutonium chloride in 1N hydrochloric acid and fresh pig skin was used to substitute human skin.
    From the tests on plutonium skin contamination and decontamination, it was proved that the plutonium skin contamination remaining after washing with water consisted of what can be called physical adsorption, which is decontaminated by the action of surface activity or detergency, and what can be designated as chemisorption, which can only be removed by chemical reaction or chelate formation. The fraction constituted by the physical adsorption was found to decrease with duration of contamination, being over 99% at 10sec contamination, 92.5% at 10min, and 90% at 60min, although the total amount of contamination increased with the duration.
    It was found that for plutonium skin decontamination, synthetic detergent is the most effective when the treatment immediately follows the event of contamination, while for delayed treatment given after an elapse of over 10min sodium hypochlorite or EDTA is the best agent.

    A counting system for use with gas flow proportional counters has been examined and the advantages are discussed of a specially developed pre-amplifier of current to voltage conversion type. The system proposed, embodying a conventional voltage amplifier as main amplifier, retains the advantages of the current mode signals from a flow counter. The present method has the further convenience of using a commonly adopted general purpose voltage amplifier with pole/zero cancellation, a base-line restorer, and other nuclear instrument modules (NIM).
    Good plateau characteristics were obtained for both α- and β-particles from RaDEF source with double and triple differentiation pulse shaping. Furthermore a slope of less than 0.1%/100V was obtained with 32P source at a counting rate of 2, 000cps. A noise level of 0.03μA peak-to-peak was realized without particular selection of transistors permitting detection of 2-3 ion pairs of ionization.

    The Tsuruga Nuclear Power Plant is of boiling water type.
    The purpose of aseismic design is to protect the inhabitants in the plant environ- ment and the operators of the plant from radiation hazard in the event of an earthquake. Another aim in aseismic design is to provide adequate strength to those structures orcomponents which should be difficult to repair if damaged by earthquake.
    The principles adopted for the aseismic design in the Tsuruga Plant are based on the experience in the construction of the Tokai Power Plant, and reference has also been made to design practices adopted in the west coast of the U.S.A. The principles also embody the results of discussions between the engineers of the Japan Atomic Power Co. and of the General Electric Co.
    In this paper a description is given of how the design principles were established and how the aseismic design based on the principles were developed.
    The present Part (I) contains a general description of the plant, an account of the progress leading to the finalization of the design principles, and the substance of the technical specifications for the aseismic design for the Tsuruga Nuclear Power Plant. A summary of the aseismic design adopted in the principal components will be given in Parts (II) and (III) to be published later.
    The design principles adopted in this plant have been followed in the subsequent water cooled power reactors constructed in Japan.

    A review is presented on the current status of progress in data processing in the field of activation analysis. A clear trend is seen towards on-line and real time processing using a small computer and also fowards time-sharing with large computer. A description is given of recent developments in data aquisition- and handling-systems including programmed pulse height analyzers, and an example is given of a real time activation analysis system. Various computation methods for γ-ray spectra in activation analyses are critically reviewed.
