The finite element computer codes are now widely used not only for structural analyses but also for thermal, fluid-dynamical and nuclear-physical problems. In performing calculations with these computer codes, however, it is essential to get a full understanding of their limitations and accuracy of the results.
The finite element method (FEM) computer codes working group under the Research Committee on Nuclear Computer Codes has conducted the benchmark tests for seismic response, inelastic structure and heat transfer problems, in order to study the adequacy of presently-used FEM computer codes and the accuracy of calculations.
This report describes the results and discussions of these benchmark tests.
