The Sixth Internationcal Conference on Radiation Shielding was held on May 16-20, 1983, in Tokyo. As compared with the previous conferences in this series held every about 5 years, the conference name was changed from Reactor Shielding to Radiation Shielding in order to extend the scope to comprize advances in shielding and radiation protection for fission, fusion, fuel handling, radwaste and other related facilities.
The conference has shown that data and methods have so advanced that it will be possible to identify target accuracies in shielding. In addition, accumulated information from operating facilities will now be used to reduce the occupatianal exposure.
