    The current status of the neutron nuclear data of major and minor actinoid nuclides is reviewed. As to the major actinoids, most of the long standing problems have been resolved, though some problems still remain in the inelastic scattering, fission spectrum etc. On the contrary, the data status is not satisfactory concerning the minor actinoids, particularly those which play the role of main fissile and fertile materials in actinoid burner reactors. To fulfill such requirement JENDL Actinoid File will be provided, which contains 89 actinoid nuclides from Th to Es. In order to validate the minor actinoid nuclear data, two types of integral tests are described. One is the analysis of post-irradiated fuels, where JENDL-3 data give better results than ORIGEN-2 for Pu and Am production. The reaction rates and central reactivity worths have been measured in FCA IX cores, and problems of JENDL-3 have been pointed out. In order to improve the minor actinoid data, much more efforts will be required both on the experimental and theoretical work.

    The measurements of dead time of BF3, 3He, fission and proton-recoil neutron counters were performed on the basis of the reactor-power variational technique in the reactor, UTR-KINKI reactor. The advantage of this method consists in making it possible to change the flux of irradiation field continuously and over a wide range. The reactor UTR-KINKI is well suited for the measurements since the power of the reactor can be easily changed and the range of flux is just appropriate to evaluate the dead time. The results indicate that the nonparalysable model for the dead time characteristics is applicable to the counters employed. The measured dead time of fission counter is about 1.4μs, while those of others range of 6-9μs.

    Unidirectional C/C composite named "MFC-1" with high conductivity was developed, and full-scale armor tiles were fabricated. The thermal conductivity in the direction perpendicular to the plasma-side surface is more than 300-500W/m·°C, which is higher than those of other C/C composites ever made, even superior to that of pyrolytic carbon. It was shown by high heat load tests done using an electron beam test facility that the unidirectional C/C composite was very resistant against both surface erosion as well as severe thermal shock.
    The "MFC-1" was successfully brazed to copper substrate, and its high thermal shock resistance was observed in heat load tests (20MW/mm2, 3s, not cooled). A functionally gradient material has been also developed as compliant layer for the MFC-1 bonded to copper.

    A mathematical formulation was developed to describe the concept of import premium method, which can quantify a security effect of demand reduction of imports by introducing the alternative before its supply disruption (or variation) may happen.
    Next, by using this formula, a security value of plutonium use (especially, fast breeder reactor), defined as a contributor to reduction of possibilities of disruption (or variation) of natural uranium supply was estimated.
    From these studies, it is concluded that although the formula proposed here is simplified, it may be available for assessing an energy security if only we prepare the data concerning future motions of supply and demand curves.
