    Several design factors of the period meter for nuclear reactors are analyzed. Using the results, a new transistorized period meter is developed.
    Experimental data of this device are:
    (1) Input signal level: 0.5V/decade
    (2) Period range: -15+3sec
    (3) Stability of period output for ambient temperature -10+60°C and AC line voltage 85115V: ±1%
    (4) Drift of period output: ±0.1%/10hr
    (5) Hysteresis of period scram level: ±0.1%
    (6) Stability of period scram level for ambient temperature -10°C×60°C and AC line voltage 85115V: ±11%

    The removal of 141Ce, 95Zr-95Nb and 106Ru-106Rh from dilute aqueous solutions has been investigated using the technique of soap flotation.
    Cerium nitrate, zirconium oxychloride and ruthenium chloride were used as inactive carrier materials.
    From alkaline dilute solutions, 99.0% of 141Ce, 99.5% of 95Zr-95Nb and 99.5% of 106Ru-106Rh were removed by soap flotation method using sodium oleate as flotation collector and ferric chloride as coprecipitating reagent.

    This report presents the correlations of the Bingham viscosity and the yield stress of alumina-water slurry with volume fraction of alumina and temperature of slurry, measured with the use of a narrow channel with circular cross section.
    Data of the friction coefficient for slurry in laminar and turbulent flows through a circular pipe are also presented. The results for the laminar region coincide well with Hedström's theory. In the turbulent region, the slurry friction coefficient deviates from the Newtonian fluid in the positive direction with increasing Hedström number, but with a given Hedström number the friction coefficient approaches Newtonian fluid when the Reynolds number exceeds a certain critical value. The critical points of the Reynolds number are about 4×104, 6×104 and 1.5×105 for Hedström numbers of 5×104, 1×105 and 5×105 respectively.

    A review is presented on the γ-ray transmission problem through multiple layered shields. In Chap. II, an introductory explanation is given on the behavior of photons in stratified slabs. Several illustrations of energy spectra, angular distributions of photons and buildup factors in the slabs provide an outline of the phenomena involved.
    In Chap. III, an extensive survey of theoretical treatments is made to examine the adaptability of the methods to the γ-ray multilayer problem. The survey includes several methods for numerically solving the Boltzmann transport equation, the Monte Carlo method, the successive scattering method, as well as various transmission operator and invariant imbedding methods. Apart from the Monte Carlo method, only a few of the methods are applicable to the multilayer problem of γ-rays. The result of the survey is further summarized in a table.
    Chap. IV gives a brief description of the relevant experiments. The survey brings into relief the lack of experiments with source energies above the 60Co level.
