The heat of formation and the heat capacity of UC
1-xO
x (Uranium Oxycarbide) were measured for the values of x from 0 to 0.84, from which the standard heat of formation of UC
1-xO
x was calculated.
The heat of formation at the reaction temperature of 640°K was determined by measuring the heat of combustion of UC
1-xO
x using differential thermal analysis, resulting in
ΔH°
640s=-21.3-108.5x kcal/mole.
Measurements of heat capacity were done over a temperature range from room temperature to about 640°K. The result was
C
p=13.95+0.32×10
-3T-1.91×10
5T
-2.
The standard heat of formation of UC
1-xO
x, estimated from the heat of formation at 640°K and the heat capacity measured between 298° and 640°K, was
ΔH°
298.16=-21.7-108.5x kcal/mole.
