Thailandʼs Small Modular Reactor (SMR) deployment involves a multifaceted evaluation of technical, regulatory, economic, and sociopolitical dimensions. Technically, SMRs offer passive safety, modular scalability, and grid adaptability, aligning with Thailandʼs decentralized energy needs. However, challenges include supply chain localization, nuclear fuel management, radioactive waste disposal, and adherence to IAEA safety and non-proliferation standards. Public perception, influenced by historical nuclear concerns, risk communication gaps, and regulatory transparency, remains a key societal challenge. Political commitment, cost competitiveness, and energy integration for the Power Development Plan (PDP) are crucial for economic viability. Comprehensive risk-benefit analysis, national policy support, and stakeholder engagement are essential for a resilient and sustainable SMR deployment strategy.
