Very few measurements of sapwood area (ASW) and width of bark are found in Tohoku district comparing with the west of Kanto region. To fill this lack of data, we mainly measured ASW, widths of sapwood (WSW) and total bark (WTB) in a mature stand of Japanese cedar (Cryptomeria japonica D. Don) planted in the Nagasaka Experimental Watershed located in Ohdate city, Akita prefecture, Japan. We found the linear relationships of WSW and ASW to diameter at breast height (DBH), which are similar trends reported for Japanese cedar stands in other areas of Japan. Like as the previous study, WTB had the positive correlation with DBH. Our results corresponded well with the regression equation derived from the data obtained in the west of Kanto region proposed by Tsuruta et al. (2011). There are some possibilities that their equation could be applicable to Japanese cedar stands in Tohoku district.
