Objective:In the fields of healthcare and welfare, cooperation between professions is essential for enhancing the QOL(Quality of life)of recipients of services and care. The present study aimed to elucidate whether learning about methods of cooperation and collaboration resulted in changes in awareness of the new perspective of a “team approach” among university students, and to determine the appropriateness of the objective and methods of the present seminar.
Methods: University and graduate school students aiming to become doctors, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, registered dietitians, fitness instructors, pharmacists, dental hygienists, certified social workers, psychiatric social workers, or psychological counselors at one of five universities and two junior colleges in N Prefecture (in the case of medical school students, they are from other prefectures) gathered to learn the team approach method through interactions with actual patients and care recipients.
Results: As a result of learning about multiprofessional cooperation and collaboration, awareness of the significance and importance of the team approach among university students increased significantly following participation in the present seminar.
