The purpose of this study was to describe visiting approach to establish continual visiting to older single adults with dementia.

This study was used qualitative descriptive design and semi-structured interviews from 14 visiting nurses. In analysis interview date was categorized based on similarities and differences.

As a result of the analysis, at the beginning of home nursing, nurses’ approach was described as “making sensitive consideration not to refuse from older single adults with dementia”. This first approach acted to let visiting nurses into their houses smoothly. And next their approach was explained as “valuing satisfaction of older single adults with dementia, and making them look forward to nurses’ visiting”. This second approach act to grow expectation for confidence in home visiting nursing.

These findings revealed complex careful approach at the beginning of home nursing, which keep on their visiting to older single adults with dementia.

This study was carried out to clarify the characteristics of career development of the expert home-care nurses. We conducted semi-structured interviews with 14 expert home-care nurses and analyzed by grounded theory approach. The core of home-care nurse’s career development was the reconstructing of understanding for the nursing. The reconstructing of the understanding for the nursing influenced each other, which was an inborn strength of nurse oneself, the commitment to the living of patients and families, bringing-up of the bond between patients and nurses, comrades in their workplace, the recognition of the role of the self, the commitment to the workplace, identification of the self and occupation, and the challenge to a new career. Also, these relations were accelerated by an experience of the real pleasure of nursing and were delayed by the real difficulty. The promotion and the stagnation of the career development of the home-care nurses were characteristics different from the clinical nurse.

Objectives： The purpose of this study was to identify the structure (contents and scope) and functions (roles and responsibilities) of rehabilitation conducted by home visiting nurses in Japan.

Methods： We conducted a literature review using databases including the Latest Nursing Literature Database of Japanese Nurses Association, CiNii,, Ichushi, CINAHL, and PubMed from 2004 to 2014. Thirty articles were deemed to meet inclusion criteria, including 22 domestic and 8 overseas articles. The contents related to the rehabilitation of home visiting nurses were extracted, coded, and categorized by similarities.

Results： The structures of rehabilitation conducted by home visiting nurses consisted of 10 items, such as “Maintenance and expansion of motor functions”and “ADL in daily life.” With regards to functions, 10 categories were extracted based on 4 themes: “Support to clients”, “Counseling and providing information to clients and caregivers”, “Support to caregivers”, “Coordination with other professionals and caregivers”.

Conclusion： The study revealed that home vising nurses play various functions in home rehabilitation in different settings, although many face difficulties due to the shortage of rehabilitation therapists.
