Chuhuangkeng oil field was discovered by cable No. 1 well in 1904 and is the largest oil field in Taiwan. This oil field is producing oil in the Syukoko sandstone formation of Miocene age. There are three principal oil zone. The productive area is 5.5km long and 300-50m wide. It is asymmetric structure and has an anticlinal fault along the anticlinal axis.
There are 105 wells in this oil field and the cumulative production reached 200, 000 kl.
1. Divided into the north block, central block and south block by anticlinal fault along the anticlinal axis and 2 cross faults
2. In the second layer, the well which is on about-150m subsurface contour line in the west wing of the central block is the most productive one.
3. In the third layer, the wells situated on about-350m subsurface contour line in the west wing of the south block and central block proved to be the most productive wells.
4. Both of the 2nd and the 3rd layers have possibities of new drilling and deepening.
5. Examination of anticlinal fault in the north area and exploration of south area pursuant to the differences in thickness are considered inevitable.
