As a rule, well logging data are recorded on analog films. When an interpretation is made, digital values would be read by an operator; or in case of an interpretation by the computer system, the data should be punched on cards or tapes. This has been a prevalent way of interpreting well logging data in Japan.
The above method, however, is not appropriate to interpret tremendous amount of data or to obtain answers as quickly as possible. In order to meet such purposes, the digitizer has been utilized in these days.
As a matter of course, analog films are useful for the purpose of both monitoring and interpretation. On the other hand, if the data are recorded on both analog films and digital magnetic tapes, it is possible to input the data directly into the computer system.
For this reason, the digital data gathering and processing system was planned and completed for the interpretation of well logging data. This system deals with digital data which are simultaneously gathered while analog data are being recorded, but off-line to the computer.
This system works in a way that eight channels of analog signals which correspond to each well depth are amplified and converted and to digital values, of which data are then recorded on magnetic tapes. The gathering data are sent to and read by the computer as direct input with proper formats. Following to this process, the interpreted result could be out-put to a typewriter, X-Y plotter or other magnetic tapes.
