Contents of report of the “Round-table on urban diversity and innovation creation” are introduced, and necessary precautions related to walkability promotion in Japan are discussed. The report emphasizes that, in order to enhance the comfort of the city, we need to convert the city, so that it is easy to walk, that buildings are open to the city, that various uses coexist, and that the city enlarges open space. The report also proposes several measures to achieve these goals. Notable key concepts are biophilic design to improve the comfort of the city and LQC (Lighter, Quicker, Cheaper) approach for constant innovation of urban space. In order to improve walkability in Japan, it is necessary to implement measures that take into account differences in Japanese urban characteristics and social customs.
