The transit time between a traffic accident resulting in injuries and the access to medical care for the injured is critical in saving lives. Time reductions can be achieved through an effective Advanced Automatic Crash Notification (AACN) system. This study estimates time reduction based on traffic accident data from the Japan Trauma Data Bank, using the AACN and a Doctor Car. Using ambulance transport, the contact time to receive treatment from a doctor (arrival at a hospital) is 32min from the accident time. When a doctor goes to the scene using the AACN and a Doctor Car, the contact time until having access to a doctor can be reduced to 17min. This 17 minute reduction of time is equivalent to a life-saving effect of 282 people in 2010.
