Although the number of vehicle fires is decreasing in Japan, safety assessments for the human body are required in the case of combustion of storage batteries and high pressure hydrogen jet flames, which are new cases with the spread of electric vehicles. Therefore, the Japan Automobile Research Institute (JARI) conducts various fire and explosion experiments by simulating vehicle fires. In these experiments, as it is difficult to directly observe the effects on the human body, an evaluation model for burn damage by numerical simulation has been developed. In this paper, a three-dimensional numerical simulation using OpenFOAM is carried out to evaluate burn injuries caused by flames. Reacting flow and thermal conduction in three layers of human tissue are simulated. The heat generated by flames gradually transfers to the inside of the tissue. It is found that OpenFOAM has the ability to simulate the progress of burn injuries.
